About the RSPCA Young Photographer Awards

Whether you're an experienced photographer or a keen beginner, you've entered before or you're not sure where to start, you're in the right place!

The aim of our RSPCA Young Photographer Awards is to encourage an interest in photography and an appreciation and understanding of all the amazing animals around us. It's open to anyone aged 18 or under and all we want is for you to enjoy the process and get creative. Every year we're blown away by the incredible images you send in - and we can't wait to see what you have in store for us in 2020.

For a little inspiration to get your started, take a look at this short video of the awards ceremony from 2018. Find out why judging this competition is such a challenge, meet some of the winners and hear the stories behind their photos.

This year is our special 30th anniversary

The very first RSPCA Young Photographer Awards was a one-off event to celebrate our 150th royal anniversary in 1990. 30 years later it's still going strong, attracting thousands of entries from young people like you, across the UK.

The competition includes a range of subject and age categories. Awards are given for each category, encouraging all ages and abilities to take part, and we also crown an overall winner. There is something for everyone and, as you can enter more than one photograph in each category, you can select a range of your best work to enter.

Entering the competition

You'll find everything you need to know about the competition and how to enter it over these pages.

When you enter the competition, you'll be asked to put in your details to register with the RSPCA and let us verify your details - don't be put off, it only takes a minute or two.

If you're not sure where to start, we have plenty of photography tips and examples of previous winners and finalists for you to look at. But don't spend too long browsing... just get out there and start snapping!
