CLIMATE AND NATURE RISK AND RESILIENCE

Alignment to SDGs

13: Climate action.

Ambition

Build a resilient organisation by mitigating climate and nature risk through integrated action

The climate and nature crises pose significant risks to the welfare of animals in our care and those beyond our walls, our supply chain, operations, estate and assets, ability to meet compliance obligations, the health and safety of our people and even our strategic objectives.

Objectives

To understand these risks and prepare for challenges ahead, so we remain a resilient organisation able to continue with our charitable objectives, we will:

Take an integrated approach to identifying, assessing and mitigating climate and nature risk across our value chain and operations, guided where relevant by the Transition Plan Taskforce (TPT) and the Task Force on Nature-Related Financial Disclosure (TNFD) frameworks.

Pay due consideration to biological risk, given the potential for future pandemics and increased zoonosis and reverse zoonosis.

Assess climate- and nature-related risk to our strategic ambitions, specifically regarding wildlife and farmed animal welfare.

Develop mitigation and management plans, and site-specific adaptation plans incorporating, where possible, nature-based solutions e.g. natural flood management.

Collaborate with surrounding landowners, where possible, to reduce risk through natural risk management measures.
