A better world for animals

We want to inspire everyone to create a better world for animals. They have rich emotional lives and their own, unique personalities, so we want to celebrate every kind of animal. Can you inspire others with your photo of animals living their best lives? How do they behave? They could be out in nature or enjoying the kindness of the people looking after them.

The brief

Photos in this category should picture animals living their best lives, displaying their natural behaviours, or making use of the things we do to make the world a better place for them. So, you could capture a cow running happily in a field (the 'zoomies'!) or sheltering under shade that a farmer provided to protect her from the sun. You could show us fox cubs playing, insects making the most of a plant-filled area, or a garden pond teeming with wildlife. And don't forget your pets – how do you make sure they're living their best lives?

Examples of great shots

You can submit photos in any format – portrait or landscape, or even square! Check out all of the winners from last year for more inspiration.

Getting started

We want to see positive images of different kinds of animals – farm animals, wildlife or pets. Think about the natural behaviours they're showing and how their environment makes that possible. And you might include a human too, treating them with kindness and respect. We'd love you to show the bond people have with animals (but make sure they're happy for their photo to be entered into the competition).

It may be that your picture needs some explaining. Is it telling the story of how an animal is thriving in the right environment? Or how kindness and thoughtfulness have made a real difference to that animal's life? You have up to 80 words to tell us all about it in your photo description, so we can see the whole picture.

When you're out and about trying to get the perfect shot, don't ever put your safety at risk.

Entering the competition

Remember to include a description of your photo, in 80 words or fewer. Tell us where you took the photo, why you took it, and give any details you think are interesting or tell the photo's story.

Read the full rules and terms and conditions before you enter and check out the prizes.
