We’re pressing snooze on The RSPCA Young Photographer Awards for 2026…

It’s a really busy time here at the RSPCA, and we need to focus all our time and effort on the animals who urgently need our help. So we’ve made the difficult but necessary decision not to run this year’s competition. 

Thank you to all our past entrants. We’ve loved seeing your creative talents and your obvious love for the animals we share our world with. Please don’t stop taking and sharing your photographs. When you do, you’re helping spread the word that all animals deserve our respect. You’re helping create a better world for every animal.

We hope to be back next year and we’re using this downtime to make our next competition the very best it can be. So if you have any ideas, questions, or you’d like to be the first to know when we’re back up and running, email: ypa26@rspca.org.uk

Serious about photography? If you’re aged 18 or under, have an eye for a good image and love taking photos of animals, the RSPCA Young Photographer Awards is for you!

  • 1 Choose your subject. Check out our categories and gallery for inspiration.
  • 2 Take the pictures. Check the photo tips section if you need guidance.
  • 3 Enter your details. Introduce yourself and your images, and take a look at the rules of entry.
  • 4 Upload your photos! Your photos should be no bigger than 10MB, in JPEG format.

Under 12 years

If you're aged 11 or under when the competition closes, then this is the category for you.

12-15 years

This category is for anyone aged between 12 and 15 when the competition closes.

16-18 years

This category is for anyone aged between 16 and 18 when the competition closes.

Pet portraits

Does your pet love sitting still for a portrait? Then we want to see your work!

Everything came together - the stag, the light, the positioning. The golden outline shrouds the individual in mystery while maintaining their iconic outline.

If you can't resist sneaking a snap of your pet while they're doing any of the other super-cute things pets do... well, then this is the category for you!

Small world

Sometimes wild animals lurk right under our noses. This is your chance to capture them on your camera or mobile phone.

Mobile phone and devices

Are you always using your mobile phone to take photos? This category is for everyone, whether you're just starting out or a pro with your camera!

Portfolio

The Portfolio category is a tough challenge for any keen photographer. Can you put together five fabulous shots, linked by a great idea, location or theme?

Urban animals

As landscapes change, so do animals. This is your chance to reveal their secret lives with your photo skills.

A better world for animals

This category is for pictures that show what a better world for all animals looks like.

Documenting animals

We invite three images that tell a story about animals, showing a beginning, middle and end. Young photographers can capture real events, people and places to inspire, educate or create change.
