12–15 Mobile phone and devices – Winner 2024

Description

I took the photo on a walk with Dottie’s dog walker, Georgia. Dottie’s always excited to see her friends, running and sniffing and chasing around like a true spaniel. I loved the light in the woods and the vibrant colour of an early summer’s day. I was struck by the different heights of the long grass, the flowers, the trees. You can see the dogs’ characters in their faces. Dottie’s seems to be saying: 'Hurry up, I’ve got a river to go and jump in!'

12–15 Mobile phone and devices – Runner-up 2024

Description

My Milo, my friend, gazing out at the rain. What was he thinking? This was a moment to capture, not knowing what my clever boy may have had going through his mind. Was it sadness? No agility today? I captured this moment to show, in a simple image, that there is much more to a dog, especially my dog. The reflection was eye-catching and the exposure through the phone lens enhanced this. Everything in this moment was picture perfect.

12–15 Mobile phone and devices – Commended 2024

Description

I took this photo in November on a walk along a cycle path in Lancashire. I noticed there was a tiny ladybird crawling along a fence on its own little walk! I whipped out my phone and took lots of photos, making sure to get the never-ending fence in the background. I love this photo because it shows that what looks like a small fence to a human going past could be a long road for a little ladybird.

12–15 Mobile phone and devices – Commended 2024

Description

I became fascinated by red squirrels after a lecture and guided walk with The Wildlife Trusts. I then spent a day with a local expert in Anglesey, home to a thriving red squirrel population. Keeping exceptionally still, I placed my phone next to a tempting pile of hazelnuts and was delighted when this individual scampered forwards for a snack. I love how the vivid oranges of their fur complement the blue sky, which is also reflected in their eyes. Just look at that adorable face!
