16–18 Mobile phone and devices – Winner 2024
Description
I was at my grandparents’ house one day doing some gardening. I was crouched down, carefully cutting the lower branches off my grandad's tomato plants, when I noticed a wasp on the underside of one of the leaves. I ran and got my phone. At first I just got shots of his face, but then I decided to change my angle so I could capture more of his body as well as his antennae and mandibles.

I always enjoy taking my whippets to the beach. As Bella started chasing Mabel, I locked focus on them before they ran too fast. Then I directed my iPhone at the sun to under-expose the light composition and make a silhouette. The warm glow in the background makes the image look calming. The sun’s shining directly on my dogs, highlighting their physique and reflecting their shadows onto the sand. If you look closely, you’ll even see small birds in the sky!

Description
This photo was taken on a summer holiday to France. We visited the Palace of Versailles and toured the grounds. While my family and I were exploring and sheltering from the heat, we came across a long, cobbled path. As we walked down the path, I spotted my first ever stag beetle. I laid down on the path to get a closer look and captured this photo with the palace in the background and the beetle taking centre stage.
